The Problem with "Just Start"
"Just start" is common advice, but starting without a plan leads to re-recording your first episodes and making avoidable mistakes.
Phase 1: Strategy
Define your audience. Be specific. "First-generation entrepreneurs building service businesses" is a target audience you can serve exceptionally well.
Define your format. Solo commentary, interview, co-hosted, or narrative? Pick one and commit for at least 20 episodes.
Define your cadence. Weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Be honest about what you can sustain.
Phase 2: Setup
Choose your hosting platform. Buzzsprout, Transistor, or Captivate. Budget $15–$20/month.
Create your cover art. 3000x3000 pixels. Your show name must be legible at thumbnail size.
Record a trailer episode. A 2–3 minute trailer introduces you and your show.
Phase 3: Recording
Record episodes 1–3 before launching. Launching with three episodes gives new listeners something to binge.
Keep your first episodes focused. Pick one specific, valuable topic and cover it thoroughly.
Phase 4: Publishing
Submit to directories. Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music. Approval takes 24–72 hours.
Tell your existing network. Email your contacts, post on social media, ask for reviews.
The Most Important Step
Publish episode one. Not when it's perfect. Not when you feel ready. Publish it now and improve with every episode.
